PROJECT

If you want to start sewing but have never used a sewing machine, this class is for you! In this half day course we will go over all the basics so you feel confident setting up a machine and sewing a variety of stitches and seams to start your first sewing project. Learning to use a sewing machine doesn’t need to be daunting and we will walk you through every step of the process. This is the perfect class to take before coming to our “Learn to Sew Clothes” class where you can put your machine practice into action to start making your own clothes!

WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?

+ What are the parts of the sewing machine

+ How to thread a sewing machine

+ What a bobbin is and how to wind one

+ How to sew a straight stitch and a zig zag stich (the two stitches needed to make most garments)

+ How to change the settings on your sewing machine to change the stitch length and needle position

+ How to sew two pieces of fabric together

+ How to sew curves and corners

+ How to use your sewing machine to finish a seam

This is a practical class where we will have time to explore a sewing machine and practice different stitches. Students will leave with a selection of samples.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for absolute beginners! You don’t need to have ever used a sewing machine before, or might have sewed a while ago and want to remind yourself of the basic skills. + All tools and equipment

+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

+ Nothing! We will provide fabric and thread for sewing the samples

WHERE?

It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
